...To the Bus.... The Solar Bus!

Monday, August 01 2005 @ 10:24 PM EDT
Contributed by: Bryan

OutdoorsI am reminded of a Who song whenever I see or think about the Solar Bus. And for Gary Beckwith, the Solar Bus is much more than just a vehicle he drives.

Lifting copy right from his website, the Solar Bus project is described as follows:

The Solar Bus is a demonstration and education project created by The Harmony Institute to promote awareness of issues relating to:

-Biodiesel Fuel
-Vegetable Oil as Fuel
-Other Alternative Fuels
-Solar Energy
-Energy Conservation
-Peace, Politics, and the Environment

We believe that the best way to promote something is to DO IT. And if you really want to get people's attention, BIGGER is better.

Too many people don't realize that solar energy actually works. We want to show people, not just tell people, that it does work. That's what the Solar Bus is all about.

The website http://www.solarbus.org/index.shtml
explains so much about the vehicle itself, the mission that it is on, and how you can learn more, that it would be foolish for me to re-purpose it here.

What I will do, however, is expound on Gary's determination to educate those who want more information. His genuine excitement and knowledge of alternative energy sources make him a valuable resource for the immediate region.

What sets Gary apart is the fact that he educates without ever becomming preachy about the subject. He will talk at great length to those who want a discussion and he will simply extend a friendly "hello" to those who have no interest.

Take a peek at the website if you have a moment, or better yet, take a peek if you have an interest.
