VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SAMPLE THE HUNTINGTON RIVER!

Tuesday, May 22 2007 @ 09:30 AM EDT
Contributed by: mbt

Volunteer PostingsMy son and I did this last year. It was fun and educational, even on the chilly mornings.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SAMPLE THE HUNTINGTON RIVER!

It’s that time of year again, as we gear up for another season of E.coli sampling on the Huntington River. The Huntington River Conservation Partnership will hold a volunteer sign up and (brief) training session on:

Wednesday, June 6th at 7pm at the Audubon Barn on Sherman Hollow Road

Anyone interested in volunteering to take samples of the Huntington River this summer should plan to attend. You will be able to sign up for one or several sample dates/sites at that time.

Samples this year will be collected on MONDAY mornings, starting June 18th. Samples need to be delivered to either the Huntington or Jonesville Post Office parking lots by 7:15 (Huntington) or 7:30 (Jonesville) for their ride to the lab in Waterbury.

Additional information will be available at the sign up session- Mark you Calendars!

More volunteers needed. See the pleas below from Aaron Worthly. This is an important project regarding quality of life issues in our community. All the information you need is on the website listed below. Thanks!

Hi Huntington River Volunteers- I’ve updated the volunteer schedule on the HRCP website at: www.huntingtonriver.org based on the volunteers who have contacted me. I’ve tried to put folks into the slots they requested, but there were several requests for a few sites, so they went on a first come-first serve basis…I did not put folks in slots they did not specifically request, so if you’re flexible, have another look

There are still quite a few slots in need of volunteers! So, have a look at the schedule, and let me know if you are able to fill a slot.

If you have not yet signed up, it’s not too late! Let me know if you have questions about any particular sites, there are also links to maps on the site.

My apologies, we are as of yet unable to fill out the schedule on-line, hopefully that will come in the future (any webmaster volunteers???), so for now, drop me an email with your sign-up preferences.

Yellow slots are for duplicates- take two samples at the same spot on these days/sites.

Thanks! See you on the river!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SAMPLE THE HUNTINGTON RIVER!
Authored by: mbt on Friday, June 15 2007 @ 09:06 AM EDT
The first sample day of the 2007 season is this coming Monday, June 18th. Volunteers are lined up and ready to collect samples from the Huntington River to be tested for E.coli bacteria levels. I’ll be posting the results to this list when they are available.

There are still some sample slots in need of volunteers- please take a look at the schedule available at www.huntingtonriver.org and see if you can fill one of the empty slots. If so, just drop me a note and I’ll add you to the schedule.

Volunteers- check the schedule, and also review the 2007 volunteer information sheet (also at www.huntingtonriver.org) for drop off times, and sample protocols. If you need sample bottles for Monday, there are some available at Beaudrys Store in Huntington and the Bridge Street Café in Richmond.

Thanks to everyone who is helping to make this sample season a success!
