Watching the students of the Richmond Taiko Drum class, it is easy to see how music can influence a community.
The concert appeared to consist of three main parts. A group of very talented youngsters (all below the age of 15 I believe) performed as one segment, followed by current students, and then the evening was topped of by the pros.
Amazingly, the only difference between student and pro performances was the energy level of the drum play itself. The students were all very well choreographed in their execution.
Another point of interest was a quick history lesson in the Taiko Drum. The intructor explained that the drum used to define borders. If you could hear the drum, you were within the borders of the community.
How's that for district zoning!
By the way, if anyone has any pictures, could you please post them. I did not have my camera.
Thanks,
Wally
