Schools & EducationThe site has beena little sparse lately... Sorry, but I have good reason.

Hello folks.

Over the next few weeks, I hope to be getting back into the swing of providing content for MyRichmondVT.com. About a year and a half ago , I went back to school (after being away from education for...well, considerably more than a decade) to obtain a Masters Degree and am finishing it up, even as I write this.

To date, this has been Richmond's first and only community journalism site, where everyone comes together to provide information and insight about local happenings. It is difficult to constantly provide updates and information on a constant basis, but I believe it is a worthy endeavor. This site is a great resource when utilized to its fullest.

I hope that you join me over this next year as the best is yet to come. If you are interested in getting involved, just start posting. If you have any questions, please drop me an e-mail.

Double click my name at the top of this article and look for the send e-mail link. I will try to answer the questions you have.

Thanks Richmond!

-Bryan

Hi Larry,

The Masters is in Mass Communications: The Role of Localized Information Distribution.

I am concerned with the loss of "local" media throughout the country. I created this site as a way to ensure the continuance of communication from a hyper-local perspective.

Tell me a bit about your business.

Regarding our business (Audiobooks Online), my wife, a few employees and I operate a Web-based audio book mail-order store and ship world-wide from our home property on Hinesburg Road.

After retiring from IBM in 1993, I was visiting an elderly friend (Howard Schroeder on Esplanade Street) who, because of failing eyesight, was listening to audiobooks he had received from the Library system. I didn't realize it, but the seeds of my future Web business were sown that day.

Too young and energetic to really retire, I searched for something to do. I viewed the Web as a cost effectiveness and earth-friendly way of doing business worldwide (no expensive, static printed catalogs to maintain and mail). Being a closet-entrepreneur for most of my life, I decided to sell audiobooks on the Web and in mid-1994 our first Web store went live.

Our business has grown with our ability to create and manage a Web store, our capability to keep customers satisfied with good prices and service and with the growth of the Web as a shopping venue.

I share your concern about the loss of local media and am excited about the possibilities of a Web site like myrichmonvt.com. Myrichmondvt.com gives local citizens an opportunity to communicate, share ideas, and learn from one another. The challenge is to get folks to visit here often and to use this medium.

Is there a feature of myrichmondvt.com that would email me whenever a new post is made and/or a reply to a post that I made?
