It looks as if there will not be a candidate's forum scheduled this year, but I welcome your questions and comments here.

Below is the letter I submitted to the Times Ink. I would love to hear from you by phone 434-4898 or e-mail filkee@gmavt.net.

Thanks,

Erik

Dear Neighbors,

Three years ago, I ran for Selectboard as a write-in candidate. This past year I was named vice chair and given the opportunity to put my experience to work in a leadership role. I am grateful to be living in this community and excited to be a part of the group of volunteers and dedicated town staff who work so hard to make Richmond such a great place to live and work.

My experience on the board has informed the way I look at and think about everything in town. I see first hand the effort that goes into keeping the roads open in March or who is behind the daffodils that magically appear every spring. The farmers market, film festivals and fireworks all require a community that is engaged and energetic and these are the things that set Richmond apart.

The challenge is to ensure that this community remains strong in the face of outside pressure. Richmond is going to grow. We need to be sure that it happens in a way that is sensible and sustainable and ultimately ensures that Richmond stays affordable. We need to focus on smart commercial development, investment in our infrastructure, and thoughtful planning that helps preserve our rural character.

The Selectboard is at its best when it works by consensus and I intend to continue in that spirit. I am honored to have represented you on the board and hope I have earned your trust to continue for another three years. I ask for your vote on March 7.

Sincerely,

Erik Filkorn
