Gary Bressor, a Richmond Citizen, with many ties to the community is putting together an LLC to protect and preserve the wonder of the Huntington Gorge.
My wife brought home a two-sided flyer about saving the Huntington Gorge today and I wanted to share the efforts afoot to keep this natural resource available.
While the group understands that many deaths have occured at the gorge, they are quick to point out that it is as much a part of Richmond as Cochran's or the Round Church.
In truth, the gorge itself is not an "evil" and the group would love input on how to make it safer and how to educate the public about the wonders and dangers of the area.
According to the information on this page, the group is going to great lengths to study the locations and circumstances behind each tragedy so as to have a better understanding and "lessen the chances of future injuries and deaths..."
This is a logical step in trying to live with the power of nature without trying to destroy it in the process.
If you would like to make suggestions on how to make the gorge safer, feel free to do so here. You may also mail your suggestions on how to improve the safety, or offer support or (non tax-deductible) contributions to:

The goal is not to destroy a natural resource of Richmond, but to make it safer for generations to come. Many have benefited from the public use of this recrational area and with the help of the Huntington River Gorge, LLC, many more may get the opportunity.
