Author Bill McKibben to speak on October 3rd on Local Economics at Union Station. We all know that buying local is good for the economy, right? But, what does buying local have to do with global warming? Author Bill McKibben, known especially for his work on climate change, will speak at an event sponsored by the Burlington Currency Project on Oct 3rd.
He will talk about his most recent book, Wandering Home and how his research has led him to believe that creating more local sources for goods and services is vital for strengthening our communities. Following up on a June 2005 article for Seven Days newspaper on one local solution, Burlington Bread, Mr.
McKibben will share stories about other innovative solutions to create a more sustainable Champlain Valley.

The event will be held at Union Station in the train station lobby. There will be a reception and silent auction from 6:30-7:00 followed by Mr. McKibben's talk. A $5 suggested donation (in US dollars or Burlington Bread) will be accepted at the door. See www.burlingtoncurrency.org or call 656-2943 for more
information.
