Arthur Lee Land took the stage at the Volunteer Green at 7pm on Saturday July 16th. His amazing performance, redfeined the art of the one-man band, as he perfromed everything live using multiple instruments.
Land's stage show was as far from ostentatious as a performed could possibly get, yet it was the most thrilling live act I've seen in years.
The secret to Land's ability to play multiple instruments at the same time stems from the use of modern technolog and loop machines... yet unlike many other musicians using loops, Land's are not pre-recorded.
At the beginning of every song, Land starts with one instrument and "loads" the sounds he wants into a loop recorder of some type. Then, he layers new sounds atop the presious and creates an entire band of varied instruments right before your eyes.
To hear him, is good, but to watch him perform from the beginning adds new appreciation to the singular talent that is Arthur Lee Land.
Inspired by the Colorado music scene, where Land currently lives, he had added plenty of familiar tones to his repetoir (inlcuding african precussions) without "borrowing" melody from anyone else.
Arthuer Lee Land is an act you must see to believe.
