The Fourth of July Parade

Monday, July 04 2005 @ 02:33 PM EDT
Contributed by: Meg

Richmond News Richmond's Fourth of July Parade kicked off with the usual one-mile race down through the center of town.

[Story by Meg, Photos later added by Bryan]

Family friends, parents and children sped there way down as spectators cheered on competitors of all ages and abilities. This was truly a community event as all were welcomed to participate.

The parade followed the race and had the usual participation of home-built floats, community services strutting their service vehicles, and even a "Thank You" to the voters for a new firetruck that's do to arrive a little later this summer. The note was attached to the side of the current truck and was a reminder to all, just how tight knit a community can be.

A simple thank you note spoke volumes to the community, where a parade of politicians (notably absent during this non-election year) rarely moves a soul.

This simple, home-town parade is what community is all about. This is the place we live, these are the neighbors we live with, and thank the lord, we live in a country where a simple day reminds us all, what is at stake if we don't contribute to the betterment of one another.

Happy Fourth of July Everone!

-Meg

I remember celebrating the fourth of July with a lot of merrymaking and fireworks display. I could remember our neighbors singing and dancing like there's no tomorrow.

I remember our first fourth of July experience with my mom. She brought cookie gift baskets for us and we enjoyed watching the fireworks display at night in our town center.
