I went to the Vermont City Marathon and was amazed by the people around me.
Yesterday I had the chance to spend time in downtown Burlington. Completely forgetting that the Marathon was underway, I was lured to the waterfron by the rhythmic beat of the Tyko drummers.
I definitely saw some of the Richmond residents milling around and even a handful running the race. It brought a sense of pride for me to see all of our communities coming together for a very peaceful and free event.
What struck me most about the marathon was how clean it appeared to be. People did, in fact, pick up after themselves. I am certain that they did not leave the park completely free of debri, however it was very refreshing to see athletes and spectators try to be respectful of the park.
I am always curious whether or not these events draw a respectful crowd. In this case, it was a peaceful gathering of athletes and supporters. Everyone seemed to respect the land and the people. I only wish the past events at Coventry were as pleasant.
